A great American tradition.

Canaletto, Return of the Bucintoro, 1732

Fitz Hugh Lane, Stage Rocks, Gloucester, 1857

Richard Misrach, Stranded Rowboat, Salton Sea, 1983 (C) 1983 R. Misrach

Still beautiful after all these years.
(Even more so now it's dark at four.)

According to the Times, Iraqi reaction to the Baker report was mixed. (Looks just like the reaction at my house.)

The Candidate Speaks

We are what we believe, right?

That's not good news.

44% of Americans believe that the world was created by God in six days. 45% believe that God created human beings in their present form.

48% of Americans believe the U.S. has special protection from God. 51% believe the lesson of 9/11 is that there is too little religion in the world.

69% of Americans believe in the literal existence of hell. 77% believe in the Virgin Birth.

And 100% of the contributors to this blog believe that we're up to our necks in idiots.

(Remember "power to the people"? Guess you really do have to be careful what you ask for.)
